OK. I have been slacking I know. I haven’t written a blog since Mother’s Day. I have been bizzzzeeee. For real!
I’ve had a few shows and radio plugs that were pretty successful and I mean…I’ve just been grinding for real. This has been a great month…stressful but still great. If you didn’t get a chance to check me out in Charlotte, I hope to go back next month. I’ll probably stop back through the Wine Up at their Platform event. I only performed their once but I’m hooked. I love the ambiance! The 2.5 hour drive from Raleigh won’t be good to me on a Thursday morning right before work but it will be worth it! =)

Tomorrow night, I have an interview with WDEP Internet Radio. It’s called “The Indie Artist Spotlight Show Presents An Evening With Jai Moi May 27th from 11:00 pm to 12:00 am.” Nice…. I’m excited…and nervous…but that’s a good thing. So make sure you check me out and call in with those questions. The show is hosted by Da Educated Poet and he’s based out of MN. It will be 12 midnight EST.

I want to say a special thank you to RedBlackDead, Rojeio, Angel Eyez in UK, HipHopRadio on twitter, Da Educated Poet, and R. Dawson, and Mr. MVP spotlighting what I do on your stations. Thank you on behalf of all indie artists that are grinding and trying to get their work out there. You are appreciated. *smooches*

Keep an eye on my show schedule and I hope to hear or see you soon.

Oh yea…and if you have checked out my video – www.youtube.com/jaimoimusic
And if you haven’t purchased my single, go to Amazon or iTunes. It’s only 99 cents! Not even a whole dollar! haha!

peace and blessings,
jai Moi

Why am I still awake…and Happy Mother’s Day

OK….against my common sense I drunk black tea and honey after seeing a twitter of a friend mentioning how he was enjoying his “bangin” tea. 1) I am a tea fanatic however 2) I haven’t had tea in a week. So I really had to have a cup against my better judgment. I first looked for chamomile. All out! Green tea! OUT! I don’t even have my other favorite…Chai. So that tells me…I need to make a trip to the grocery store. lol =)

I’m studying “runs”. For those not familiar with that music term, a run is a group of different notes sung to a single syllable. For instance singing ‘e’, you can sing it in C,D,E,F,G (which is do-re-mi-fa-so). Any who…I mostly do jazz runs and scats when I sing. So I’m trying to go over different types of runs I normally wouldn’t do…yes at 3:34 a.m. An artists work is never finished and learning no matter what you do is eternal.

Earlier I posted a show at the Pour House. Well it has been canceled. As soon as I posted it on Facebook, I find out within an HOUR that the show has been pushed back. That’s one reason why I am skeptical about posting shows because they can change at whim. I was really looking forward to rocking this venue. Some other time I guess…

My shows at Apostrophe on the 19th and Poetry Cafe on the 21st are still a go at this time. I’m excited!

In about 1.5 hours I have to take a friend to the airport. I haven’t slept. :-| I am going to crash when I get home I know it. And I have to travel over an hour to go see my moms for Mothers Day.

Speaking of which, I was just talking about the strength of my mother with my co-worker. When I say that there aren’t many mothers like my mom, it is the truth. I don’t talk about my past that much with many people because…well…I’m just an extremely private person. But we grew up POOR. Poor to some people is taking a bologna sandwich to school every day. Naw… We grew up without the necessities that we take advantage of everyday. No running water. No bathroom. No heat. No A/C. No car. *sigh* The list of “no’s” go on and on. I didn’t realize we were poor until I got to middle school. I never talked about it to anyone because I was embarrassed. My mother had five kids and she raised us on her own. So when I say she was a strong woman…she was a strong woman. I’ve seen her draw water. Go to the woods and cut down trees so that we could have heat. Lay under quilts she made just for us sewn out of old clothes with tobacco thread. Some how we ALWAYS had enough to eat. It was like the story of Jesus and the fish and bread. You see what I’m saying? For some reason…tonight…I just feel like bragging on how strong she is and how proud I am to say she is my mother. *teary eyed* And even though she raised two boys and three girls without any assistance from our fathers, she did a great job. Four of us (her children because I do have other brothers and sisters by my old man) is still here and living decent, productive lives. Now she is 70 YEARS OLD! Wow! She’ll be 71 this year and she just retired a couple months ago. It’s her time to rest and let us take care of her. :-) Love you Mama!!

To all of the mom’s out there – stay strong and keep your head up. You are appreciated. Happy Mother’s Day!

peace and goodnight

Relax…relate…release…

Hello? *tapping the mic* Does anyone actually read these things? lol

I often wonder that sometimes. It’s all good. I’m gonna keep writing anyway just like I sing until someone hears. =)

So last night I headed over to the Mosaic Lounge. It was my first time there. The place is pretty cool…nice, quaint atmosphere with Indian decor. Allure Life Entertainment was in the house! Aaahh! Now why is it there aren’t more events like this! There was a free raffle just for women to win a coach bag! PLUS!! Free Entry! PLUS!! Professional, after-work atmosphere! PLUS!! Complimentary massages!! HUGE PLUS!! And the music…R&B all night…a little old school, mixed with new. What a relaxing, classy vibe! After a long week at work, it was only fitting that I treat my mind and body to something special and this was exactly what the doctor ordered. It was the perfect after-work treat and perfect for networking. (…surprising who you can run into when you hit up spots like these.) …and my back is still happy – YES! LOL!! If you’re in the area, definitely make sure you check out Allure’s events. I hit up two other spots afterwards but this by far the most noteworthy.

This weekend will consist of practice, practice and more practice. The next showcase is Monday, 5/10, at the Pour House – Everybody Shines. Show starts at 7:00 p.m. There are supposed to be around 15 acts….maybe more. I don’t go on until 10:00, but that could easily change depending on who performs so I look forward to seeing you there.

peace…

Awards?

Today, I was contacted by someone hosting the Carolina Music Awards and it was suggested that I ask my listeners to nominate me. Honestly, I never really thought about it. Even though it would be an honor to be nominated, I don’t know how I would feel about it. Lol! It’s weird. I’ve been singing all my life – it’s my PASSION. When I sing, I honestly feel it DEEP, DOWN in my soul and the music, the lyrics, literally the vibrations from the speakers take me to a place where I just wanna be completely and absolutely engulfed in my passion. So that feeling alone is reward enough for me because I am finally doing what I’ve wanted to do since I was a small child. :) Weird…eh…maybe….maybe not.

I receive email and comments from fans encouraging me all the time. One message I received recently from a Facebook friend/fan said: “your video for your song “Fly” is awesome. i actually lived in the homeless shelter next to moore square some when i was little… it’s nice seeing something at my roots.” Then this person tells me that he/she has listened to my song to encourage them when he/she felt down. Now that’s deep! I responded with, I listen to it too for the same reasons. I totally believe in living by what you are putting out to your audience. Comments like these…wow…I feel and appreciate each and every one. It lets me know that not only am I on the right track, but I am helping someone out there. Someone can relate to my message. :-D

So my award? The comments, love and support that I get from you. As they say during those award ceremonies…”it was nice to be nominated.” LOL!! Funny…I feel like I already have won an award just by being blessed to be able to venture on this journey! :-D

…is going to be an awesome day! My girl Nikki B. is coming up from High Point to assist with rehearsal. I have three shows this month. I’m very excited:

5/10/10 – The Pour House, Raleigh, NC
5/19/10 – Apostrophe Lounge, Charlotte, NC
5/21/10 – Poetry Cafe, Greensboro, NC

It’s going to be sick! I can’t wait to perform this new song that I haven’t performed live yet and that will be on my CD. It might be a shocker…meaning…my audience won’t quit expect this one from me. This one is really smooth R&B…so pretty…I can’t wait to perform it!!

After rehearsal, we’re going to head over to the gym and work up a sweat…and maybe to Raleigh Live’s Euphoria day party. If you’re in the area, come through and say hi.

Oh yea…I’m on Twitter now so glide through my timeline… www.twitter.com/jaiMoi_Songbird.
